Sixth at Para-Worlds for Collis-Mccann

SIXTH IN TIME TRIAL ON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS DEBUT FOR COLLIS-MCCANN

Great Britain Cycling Team’s Craig Collis-McCann finished sixth in the T2 time trial on the opening day of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships.

The British rider produced a strong performance on his debut at this level, crossing the line in South Africa in 29:56.86.

Collis-McCann overcame blustery conditions on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg on a course that featured a punishing climb at the conclusion of each lap.

Despite the challenging course, Collis-McCann finished strongly, improving on seventh at the halfway mark to stop the clock under the 30-minute mark.

Gold went to Germany's Hans-Peter Durst in a time of 27:41.14, with USA's Ryan Boyle 16 seconds back for silver.

New Zealand's Stephen Hills took bronze, a further 1:23 behind Boyle.

The remaining eight members of the Great Britain Cycling Team in South Africa will get their championships underway on Friday with the second day of time trials while Collis-McCann is back in action in his road race on Saturday.
