Dring Wins Moreton Finale!

Steve Dring (Bournemouth Cycleworks Vitec Fire Ford Civil) won the final round of the Moreton series and possibly the final race in the rural Dorset village. Co-organiser Dring had escaped on the final lap with Julian Lockwood (Primera-Teamjobs), Simon Lock (Poole Wheelers) & Tom Carter (Mud,Sweat n’Gears) and with all four riders represented behind there was little appetite to chase. The race-savvy Dring allowed Lockwood, Carter and Lock to do the work before outsprinting the tiring trio. Overall series winner James Horton (VC St Raphael/Waites Contracts) was happy to roll in in 6th place, with six wins in the 10 race series Horton has nothing to prove. The final round was a straight race rather than the usual handicap and Martin Rowland (Primera-Teamjobs) & Zak Snell (Bournemouth Cyleworks Vitec Fire Ford Civil) quickly opened up a 25 second lead. Snell was working overtime and was soon back in the bunch as Rowland pushed on and despite his teammates sitting on the front, Rowland too was soon back in the wheels.
Julian Lockwood (Primera-Teamjobs) had a dig with 2 to go and again a lap later unfortunately for him he had the streetwise Dring for company.
Rachel Hackman (RN&RMCA) wrapped up the women’s series, Hackman always too fast for Steph Lewars (PooleWheelers). If the planned closed road circuit at Tarrant Rushton gets the go ahead the Moreton series will move to the new venue next year. On the calendar since 2005, Moreton has seen falling numbers in recent years with just 26 signing on for what may be the final time.
