Roadworks in Burley meant a change of course for the first of two events in New Forest Cycling Club’s Thorney Hill series.
The decision was made to return to the tough two laps of the Holmsley South-Bransgore circuit and club champion Gary Lock made no mistakes as he powered to the win in 23min 5sec to beat GA Cycles’ on-form Ray Claridge into second place by a 36 second margin.
Newcomer, New Forest CC junior rider Ali Rogers took third place with another quality ride of 24-55 while his triathlete clubmate Tony Rendell claimed fourth with 25-06.
Stewart Ward pipped a slightly off-form James Bannister by two seconds (25-10 against 25-12) for fifth, while schoolboy Tom Reid continued to impress with a 26-56 new personal best.
