Eastwood's Deliverance!

Jason Eastwood (Banjo Cycles) crossed the line at Moreton strumming an imaginary banjo. He said he was playing “Duelling Banjos” but it looked far easier than that as he delivered his 4th win of the series. Calum Croft (Mud, Sweat n’ Gears) led the sprint out but was sitting up before the line as Eastwood pulled away. Croft, who had won the previous week after Eastwoods puncture, was shadowed by the Banjo man for the last lap. Eastwood feinted with 200 metres to go forcing Croft to react, taking both to the front, before accelerating to his musical celebration. Reliable Roland Tilley (Ridebike.co.uk) just pipped Matt Hill (Primera-UK Biking) for third. Impressing in 8th place was 14 year old Josh Hooper (Primera-UK Biking).Another full field enjoyed calm, still conditions, even the local farmers suspended their annual silage shifting to accommodate the race.

Pearl Izumi Tour Series Comes to Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf will reverberate to the sound of cycling tomorrow (5 June), as elite professional cycling races back into the world famous business and shopping district just a month before the Tour de France races past on its way to the Stage Three finish on The Mall.

The Pearl Izumi Tour Series, Britain's leading televised cycle race Series, returns to the Canary Wharf Estate for its annual London leg this Thursday, with an hour long race from 7.30pm taking place on the roads around Canada Square.

On one of the fastest circuits on the 10 round Tour, and the only round in London, riders will average approaching 45 kilometres per hour around the 1-kilometre circuit, making for an action packed and spectator friendly race.

Nine squads are racing in the full Pearl Izumi Tour Series, which has a unique focus on the teams, as they battle to place their top three riders as high as possible, and claim the team prize.

Heading into the Canary Wharf Estate round London based Rapha Condor JLT lead the way at the top of the standings, head of Madison Genesis and the famous name of Team Raleigh.

Leading the way for Rapha Condor JLT will be double Olympic Champion Ed Clancy, who finished second at the Canary Wharf event last year.

Commenting on the Canary Wharf round Ed Clancy said;

"We're looking forward to the Canary Wharf event as it's the home round of our sponsors Rapha, Condor and JLT. It's a very fast race, and usually ends in a bunch sprint, so it's a great chance for spectators to get a taste of just how fast and exciting professional racing can be.

"The course suits me and the team down to the ground. Canary Wharf also brings back good memories for us of winning the Series overall at the final round in 2011.”

Joining the nine full season teams will also be four guest teams, including the Haribo Beacon team of Olympic Champion Steven Burke and the Bromley and Sevenoaks based Catford CC Equipe Banks team, backed by top high street name in the men's fashion world Jeff Banks, a lifelong member of the Catford CC.

Before all of the professional action there's also the Canary Wharf Corporate Grand Prix pro-am race at 6.30pm, pitting eleven of Canary Wharf's businesses against each other around the Pearl Izumi Tour Series circuit, each aided by a rider from one of the professional teams.

The event kicks off a great summer of cycling in the capital, which includes this weekend's Nocturne, the visit of the Tour de France on Monday 7 July, the Prudential RideLondon weekend on 9th and 10th August and the final stage of The Tour of Britain on Sunday 14th September.

Highlights of the Canary Wharf race will be shown on ITV4 at 10pm on Friday 6 June, with a repeat at 8.35am on Saturday 7 June.

Pearl Izumi Tour Series, Boulo & Roberts Win in Redditch

Individual win for Boulo, as Rapha Condor JLT extend Series lead in Redditch

Matthieu Boulo soloed to victory in Redditch to take Team Raleigh's first individual win for the team, but behind him it was a two, three, four for Rapha Condor JLT for a dominant team win.

The win restores Rapha Condor JLT's 12-point advantage over Madison Genesis with four events to go, including the double header Jersey finale.

Madison Genesis in turn are just three points clear of Team Raleigh, who have enjoyed a recent excellent run of form thanks to last week's wins in Durham and Edinburgh, and Boulo's Redditch triumph helping them to second on the night.

Raleigh had been one of the most active teams throughout Redditch's Choose how you move round, with Liam Stones, Yanto Barker and Boulo all enjoying time up the road at the head of the race.

On drying roads around Redditch town centre though it was an ever changing picture at the front, with lap after lap the order changing, with Starley Primal's Jack Pullar and NFTO Pro Cycling's Sam Harrison two to stay away for the longest.

Boulo's effort with two laps to go saw him go clear, putting his head down to maintain his margin to the finish, while behind Pullar's chase ended in a final lap crash, with Rapha Condor JLT trio Felix English, Ed Clancy and House comfortably leading in what remained of the main field.

Stones and Barker's fifth and eighth secured second on the night for Raleigh, in a close battle with Madison Genesis who also placed three riders inside the top ten.

Led by Gruff Lewis' seventh place, Pedal Heaven Colbornes took their best ever Pearl Izumi Tour Series result of fourth on the night, to close up the battle at the bottom of the standings to just three points between them, Starley Primal and Great Britain.

In addition to his race win, Boulo also took the Costa Express Fastest Lap prize, while House won the evening's Sprint competition but Jon Mould keeps his lead in the green Sprint jersey standings.

Highlights of the Redditch race are on ITV4 at 9pm on Wednesday 4 June, with a repeat on Thursday 5 June at 9am.

Round Eight of The Pearl Izumi Tour Series takes place in London, at Canary Wharf on Thursday 5 June at 7.30pm, preceded by the Canary Wharf Corporate Grand Prix pro-am at 6.30pm.

Amy Roberts benefits from last lap drama for first Series win

A dramatic last corner crash handed victory in Redditch's Round Four of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series to Wiggle Honda's Amy Roberts.

Roberts was in a six rider group set to contest the win, but on roads made greasy by earlier rain, Charline Joiner slid out at the last corner, taking Helen Wyman with her and disrupting the rest of the group, leaving Roberts in front of Lydia Boylan and Dame Sarah Storey.

Storey and Joiner had worked hard with teammate Ciara Horne in the front group with Series leader Eileen Roe distanced from the front mid-race in a bid to put Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International rider Joiner into the leaders jersey.

But with the pressure on, Joiner slid out, crossing the line on foot in fifth, and with Roe recovering for twelfth, the Starley Primal Pro Cycling rider kept the jersey by three points.

For Roberts it was a great victory on only her second appearance in the 2014 Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series, riding unsupported as the only Wiggle Honda rider in the field. Roberts finished just ahead of Series regular Boylan, who recorded her first ever Matrix Fitness GP Series podium in Redditch.

In third, Storey lead in a trio of teammates, first Horne and then Joiner, on foot, just ahead of Wyman who also crossed the line on foot, but consolation was the Sprints win on the night, and with it the Series lead.

Roe now leads by just three points from Joiner, with Wyman a further eleven points back. The Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International team lead the team standings by 50-points over Matrix Fitness – Vulpine.

The final round of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series takes place in Woking on Tuesday 10 June, with highlights of the Redditch round shown as a part of The Pearl Izumi Tour Series highlights on ITV4 at 9pm on Wednesday 4 June.

Belgische TandemRace, Turnham & Hall Dominate! Brief Report & Images.

Great Britain’s Lora Turnham & Corrine Hall won the 28th edition of the Belgische TandemRace after dominating the four day race. The World Paracycling time trial champions won all 6 stage’s to take victory for the second year running. The opening 5km prologue time trial and 80km road stage in the village of Gedinne in the Ardennes were both run on the open road TT-style motorcycling circuit before heading north to Overpelt for a flat 80km kermesse. Day three consisted of a 2.4km time trial on the 400 metre open air track at Hulshout before another flat, 85km blast around an industrial park. The race moved north to Essen on the Dutch border for the final stage, another 80km kermesse around the town. New male tandem pairing, Steven Bate & Adam Duggleby won stage 2 & 5 and finished 3rd on GC, a dropped chain on stage 1 possibly costing them the top step on the podium. The British boys won the Green Jersey points competition. Rhiannon Henry & Lauryn Therin placed 2nd on stage 4 and again on stage 6 to secure 4th place overall. Ireland's Katie-George Dunlevy & Eve McCrystal placed third. The Belgian passion for bike racing, beer & frites and a tolerance to closed roads added a special atmosphere to this well run stage race.

Scorpion 3 Stage

After virtually abandoning competition racing in 2013 in favour of A levels and University,Warehams Jordan Wade is feeling his way back into the fold for 2014 by securing 3rd overall in the Scorpion 3 Stage Event held at Ilton Airfield hosted by Team Tor 2000. In an event well supported by Local Riders, Wade grabbed the leaders jersey taking first place in the Stage One Circuit race and held onto this jersey with a third place in the Stage 2 Criterium. Going into Stage 3 Time Trial (his weakest discipline) and a two second lead over his nearest rival, Wade was not confident of holding onto number One spot and this proved to be the case but managed a credible 7.29 over 5.1km to take 3rd overall. Further back in the field going into the TT with a 21 second deficit were local riders Chris Courage (Bournemouth Jubilee Wh) John Chapman and Bryce Rigler (CCWeymouth) Gareth Cobb Timothy Flynn Mark Valentine Robert Flynn (Poole Wheelers) and Julian Thacker (VC St Raphael) but despite their best efforts could not close the gap to the top five.
