Circuit of the New Forest Classic TT, Still Time to Enter!

Just under a week to go now until entries close for the first of the New forest CC's open TT's for the year:

A 32 mile circuit starting and finishing near New Milton, the classic New Forest CC promotion falls earlier in the calendar this year on 2nd April. The rolling course heads east through Lymington to Beaulieu, then across the heath to Lyndhurst before returning to New Milton. A good early season test on some great Forest roads.

The first race of the season is always a shock to the system and a shock to the legs. After having a great winter training block and 10 days riding abroad in a warmer climate I still knew It would the Severn Bridge race would far from easy.

Most early season races tend to go off pretty hard and this was no exception. A relatively flat course with a short punchy climb at the end of each lap meant that the bunch would be strung out all over the road and 9 laps later a winner would be crowned. Strong gusty winds and wet weather made for an interesting race with many people finding it hard to keep warm and to keep in the wheels. A crash half way through as everyone was scurrying to keep out of the wind into echelons meant the bunch was split just before the climb and getting back on would really take some effort.

I managed to keep with it till 2 laps to go when the efforts of chasing out of corners and trying to stay out of the wind took its toll and I couldn't keep the pressure on any more. For the first race of the season it was a good start and has definitely shown the areas which me and my coach need to look at and work on. The season is long and hard so we'll take some positives and work on the negatives.

British Cycling Confirms GB Squad for Hong Kong Worlds

BRITISH CYCLING CONFIRMS THE GREAT BRITAIN CYCLING TEAM SQUAD FOR THE
UCI TRACK CYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017

British Cycling has today confirmed the squad of riders who will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships presented by Tissot which take place from 12 – 16 April in Hong Kong.

Olympic champions Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Steven Burke and Callum Skinner have been named on the squad of twenty riders, of which ten are making their world championship debut.

Head coach Iain Dyer said: “The team is made up of a good mix of experienced and developing riders across all the disciplines. Throughout the earlier world cups and at the UEC European Track Championships last year, there was a good opportunity to bring some new riders into the front line. They gave a really good account of themselves and that’s reflected in the selections we’ve made today. I’m looking forward to seeing them step up into world championship level competition.

“I’m pleased to see non-programme riders Neah Evans and Lewis Oliva in Great Britain colours and their selection is testament not only to their hard work but to the support we receive from Scottish and Welsh Cycling respectively.

“It’s also great to have some of our Olympians in the squad. This year’s worlds will allow them to race different events which were not possible in previous years due to the focus on the Olympic events. This is particularly true for the endurance riders who can broaden their experience in the new format omnium plus the madison, which both have the potential to feature in the Tokyo 2020 track cycling programme. It’s a great experience for our younger riders to make their debut performances alongside such established athletes and I’m sure they will learn a lot from this opportunity.”
