Bob Jolliffe reports…..“MY best ride of the season,” is the way 2011 British Best All-Rounder Jeff Jones described his win in New Forest CC’s Rudy Project time trial on August Bank Holiday Monday.Jones of the Drag2Zero Team took top honours with a time of 56min 24sec for three 8.9-mile laps of New Forest’s Bull Hill-Portmore-South Baddesley-East Boldre circuit, which proved a hit with competitors, despite the ponies, cattle and donkeys encountered en route.His teammate, multi-champ Julia Shaw of Bramshaw, won the two-lap women’s event in 40-44, a time that would have earned her fourth in the veteran’s race won by Mid Devon Road Club’s Andrew Perkins in 39-15.Second senior was Scott Walker of MG Décor with 59-32 and third went to Dean Robson of Somerset RC, a further seven seconds behind.Second claim New Forest CC member Martin Beale (VC St Raphael) was seventh with 1-04-05, one place ahead of Stewart Ward (1-08-40) who led the point-winning New Forest CC team backed by James Bannister (ninth with 1-08-59) and Donna Shaw, third woman rider with 52-59.London Dynamo’s Rebecca Slack was second woman with 43-47. The espoir’s award for 18 to 23-year-olds went to VC St Raphael’s Jack Green with 1-03-04 for three laps. New Forest CC chairman Margaret Read’s grandson Matthew Golden (Farnham RC) was second espoir with 1-15-46.New Forest’s Chris Grant was 10th-placed senior with 1-10-01.Second and third places in the veterans’ scratch race went to Steve Smales (Boneshakers-Trek) and Steve Berry (Team Swift) with 40-03 and 40-31 respectively.New Forest veterans Stuart Peckham and Martin Balk clocked good times of 45-33 and 58-38.Other central southern veterans involved were: Dave Dent (Wightlink Offshore RT) fourth with 40-58), Gary Dighton (Poole Whlrs, fifth, 41-01), Terry Icke (Poole Whlrs, sixth and best target time with 41-02), Stuart Martingale (Sotonia CC, 15th, 42-38), Ray Claridge (GA Cycles, 16th, 42-46), Stuart Grace (GA Cycles, 21, 45-54), Rob Ellis (VC St Raphael, 23rd, 46-28), Terry Belbin (Poole Whlrs, 47-35).
Double silver at TSUK Games!New Forest CC’s Bob Jolliffe took silver medals in the Transplant Sport UK’s annual games held in Medway, Kent.Riding in the 50 to 59-year-olds’ time trial around two testing laps of the purpose-built 2.9km Cyclopark circuit at Gravesend he clocked 9-47 behind gold medallist John Leveson’s 9-31.In the floodlit road race that followed, Jolliffe was beaten in the chase group sprint, which earned him second place in the 50 to 59 group, behind Gerald Brown.“It was a fantastic way to celebrate my kidney transplant three years ago,” he said.
