The 2016 Bournemouth Trackfest on 9th July is heading for the biggest prize list ever thanks to the event sponsors.

Sotonia Summer Road Race
Circuit description:
The race HQ is located at Owslebury Parish Hall, Main Road, Owslebury, SO21 1JQ. The race
roll out from the HQ will be neutralised along Longwood Road toward the crossroad junction
with Belmore Lane. At the junction turn right onto Belmore Lane where, once safe, the race
will be de-neutralised. Immediately after the crest of the first hill the road drops away to
the left followed by a sharp right hand bend where extreme care is needed. After a series
of rolling hills the race turns left into Salt Lane to climb up to The Milburys Pub crossroads.
Just before cresting the Salt Lane climb riders will cross the finish line for the first time (there
will be a further 7 laps). At the crossroads the race turns left for a fast decent (care should
be taken to avoid potholes in the centre of the road at the bottom of the descent), followed
by a sharp climb to the Longwood Road junction, at the junction the race turns left and
descends to the junction with Belmore Lane where the race will turn left to complete the
circuit. Riders will pass the finish line 8 (eight) times in total.
*Please note BC Technical Regulation 13.3 - this prevents any rider sprinting for a Prime only
to climb off after the finish line. If any rider fails to finish following a Prime Award he will be
removed and then all riders move up one slot.

New Forest CC Club 15, Report/Results

Boardman at record breaking best
More club championship points were up for grabs on the P303/15 TT course on Tuesday night. The course starts on the road to Winkton from Ringwood before looping through Bransgore and heading towards Kingston near Crow. The riders met a gentle westerly breeze on the course on an otherwise warm and muggy evening. The main club protagonists within the club participated in the event which contributes to the club championship. Having had a week off to recover, Ben Boardman ensured that normal service was resumed with another dominant performance finishing in 33:57, and thus recording a new course record averaging 26.5 mph. Sacha Ring got within a minute of Ben in an impressive time of 34.47. Sacha commented afterwards that “Ben was just too strong tonight, I held a good pace and gave everything I had”. James Bannister had a minute over the fatigued Stewart Ward in 35:14 and 36:16 respectively. Stewart thought that last week’s victory had taken the edge off his performance and he just held off the rapidly finishing Graham Lenton by a single second. If the course had been another 100m long, Graham would have claimed a fine fifth place.

South Region Road Champs, Preview & Predictions!

The 2016 South region road championships on Sunday (26th) promise to be an open race, with, arguably, a weaker field than previous years. An unavoidable clash with the National Championships in Stockton-On-Tees may well have lured some South-based riders north. The lack of elite entries may, however be the making of the race. Free from riding in the shadow of one dominant team or waiting for the big names to make the moves, many will take the opportunity to have a go! An exciting race is in prospect and the tough, rolling Stockbridge Down course always ensures a worthy champion. Will Harper (Excel Pedal Heaven Academy) finished second behind Will Fox (Pedal Heaven) at the Stockbridge Down race back in April and will be looking to go one better at the championships
“I’m really looking forward to the regionals. I enjoy the Stockbridge Down course and if I'm on form, I really hope I can go one better than my last outing on it where I finished second. There is a lot of strong competition though, so it should be a great race. Mitch Webber has the potential to race very strongly on the Stockbridge course, but he has been out injured for a while, so we'll have to wait and see how he feels on the day. As well as Mitch, I think Paul Double has a great chance of a result. He climbs really well and motors on the flat.” Says Harper
Mitch Webber will be a threat on his home course but there is a question mark over his form after a season blighted by illness and injury. Make no mistake though, if Webber is on a good day he will be in the mix. The promoting clubs hopes rest on Paul Double, early season Double has been flying but like Webber has missed a few races through illness:
“I had a bit of cough and cold and with the big races coming up thought I best to rest. I'll be there though! It’s been my main aim, but to be fair, I'm not sure my form now though. I really need a big result,even a win because I'm currently looking into individual sponsorship before hopefully making a team next year!”

Benjamin Marks (Cycleworks.co.uk), came 9th in April and will be backed up by Harry Veale, Daniel Bone & Andrew Carter;
“This race has been in my sights this year. The form has been good for the local evening crits the last couple of weeks and 4th place at the Crawley wheelers road race last weekend was a good warm up for regionals. I like the course and although I didn't make the split in the race earlier in the season, i still had good legs to chase over for a top 10. Harry Veale and I will be looking to get in the move of the day!”

The Primera-Teamjobs trio of Oscar Hutchings, Calum Croft & Alex Hart will no doubt feature. Hutchings has hit form at just the right time, supported by the gutsy Calum Croft and the super-keen Alex Hart, he is a genuine contender for the title.
Last year’s junior champion Jack Billyard has had a difficult 12 months. A worrying heart condition forced him to return to the UK from his Dave Rayner funded base in Italy with his racing ambitions on hold but thankfully things are looking positive for Jack

“The third operation seems to have been a success. It's been an amazing feeling to be back racing and feeling lean again! The regionals suits my longer season aims. It’s a hilly course and with a disputably easier field than in recent years, it might incite a bit of negative riding. I won't be peaking for it but it will be nice to race on effectively home roads. There's a few less continental level riders than last year because of the Nationals being on the same day but I think that's a double edged sword in that many of the riders on the start list have shown form at National B events this year including the Stockbridge Down Road Race in April earlier this year”

With 2015 champion Kimberly Ashtonl not defending her title and many other local riders at the National championships, the Women’s race looks equally open. Ellie Gilham (Primera-TeamJobs) has the talent but is, perhaps under raced? Has she got the legs to cope with Winton Hill? Jennifer Powell (EliteVelo-Kalas Sportswear) placed third in the recent circuit race championships at Winchester but again has she the strength to race on the hills as well as the flat? Neutralised from HQ to the start/finish line (approx 2 miles). Turn right from school entrance onto the A30, through Stockbridge to RAB where take 2nd exit onto the B3049 (M) and up the climb to the finish area at the National Trust Stockbridge Down Trail gates.
Race De-Neutralised Proceed on the B3049 towards Winchester for approx 3 miles. Turn left (M) onto unclassified road and proceed for approx 2miles through Crawley Village (M) to junction with A272. Turn left (M) and proceed on A272 for approx 1.5 miles to junction with A30. Turn left (M) and proceed on A30 towards Stockbridge for approx 5 miles. Take 1st exit at roundabout (M) to continue on A30 to next roundabout, where take 1st exit (M) back onto B3049. Continue for approx 1 mile to cross start/finish line to complete 1 lap (13miles)

Matt Langworthy, a clear winner at the Gary Dighton memorial 10 on the P415 Upton Course. Still only 19, the Devon-based
Rider made the most of a still, if rather unresponsive airflow to win by nearly half a minute. A steady stream of 18 riders were timed at less than 21 minutes, testimony to rising standards in depth in the sport.
Poole Wheelers took the team prize, thanks to Mark Denny, Sam Wadsley and Wayne Pitman. The best improver was won by Peter Hatt, and close behind, local man , Paul Brown, BJW.
Dave Driver won the standard prize and was very kind in donating a pristine copy of cycling weekly featuring Gary Dighton ,
just after his 1991 48.07 Comp. Record, taking 1.06 off the previous record on the H25/13b in Oxford.
An incredible athlete, it is an honour to run the event each year on Father’s Day, in his name. He is sorely missed.

European Base for Women's Academy Endurance Programme

 

EUROPEAN TRAINING BASE CONFIRMED FOR BRITISH CYCLING’S

WOMEN’S ACADEMY ENDURANCE PROGRAMME

 

British Cycling can confirm plans for a second base in Europe to host the women’s endurance senior academy.

 

The announcement follows the success of relocating the men’s endurance senior academy to Italy in February and, although the location cannot be publicly announced yet, preparations are well advanced with the base hosting the academy from early next year.

 

Performance Pathway Manager Ian Yates explains: “I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made in establishing a second European training base for our women’s endurance senior academy as this is the logical next stage in the programme’s evolution. Although the new training base will have similar elements to the men’s, it’s not an exact replica as it will be designed to meet the differing development needs of the women’s squad.

 

“The location we’re looking at is ideal in terms of proximity to world-class road racing and it also offers great access to a wide variety of training conditions and terrain. Similar to Italy, the base will also serve to benefit the whole programme and is another example of how we are striving to develop a world-class squad of riders for Tokyo 2020 and beyond.”

 

Coach Chris Newton said: “The women’s endurance academy programme has gone from strength to strength over the past year. We now have a squad of very talented young riders who relocated back to Manchester from Newport to benefit from the advantages of being close to British Cycling’s HQ and the support staff based here.

 

“The next step was creating a single team, Team Breeze, which meant they could ride together and ensure that individual development could be prioritised. Both these actions have already yielded positive results, including a top eight team pursuit ride at a Track World Cup, Emily Nelson’s excellent fifth place at the UCI Track World Championships in London and a couple of promising results on the road in the Women’s Tour Series.

 

“The next step is to look at increasing their road racing experience and we believe utilising a foreign training base will prove to be a great avenue to do this.”

 

Former junior world champion Emily Nelson said: “The opportunities we’ve been given by British Cycling this past year have been amazing and I’ve seen improvements in myself as a bike rider.

 

“As a second year senior academy rider, representing Great Britain at an elite track world championships was the highlight of my career so far. I learned so much from being in the same team as Laura Trott and Sir Bradley Wiggins, the whole experience was invaluable to me.

 

“Moving to a foreign training base is the next step in my development and I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can achieve as a result of this.”

 

Fellow senior academy rider Manon Lloyd said: “It’s been hugely inspiring recently to have Mark Cavendish training on the track with us, and to know that his success was partly down to an academy experience similar to the one we’re being offered is really exciting. Likewise, hearing how much the men’s academy riders are enjoying and benefitting from their training base is brilliant, and I can’t wait to relocate abroad.”

Ward takes maximum points with emphatic win

New Forest Cycling Club held a 25 mile TT on the revised P304 course in unpredictable weather conditions on Tuesday night. The normally well attended event had a limited field of participants due to the highly unpredictable weather that was being experienced in the region. Stewart Ward led the field home with a personal best on the course of 1:01:14 ahead of the improving Lyndon Thompson in 1:03:03. Stewart paced his effort around the course and steadily built his lead throughout the event. “I learnt a lot from my experience at the Chrono event on the Tour of Cambridge”, Stewart commented, “I felt more in control and confident of holding my effort, my numbers were good today”. Bob Dowling continued reap the rewards of a good winter’s training with a fine third place in 1:03:58, picking up the last Championship point on
