Jens Voigt Returns to New Forest in 2015

On Saturday 12th September 2015 Jens Voigt www.trekfactoryracing.com will return for the third running of the "Shut up Legs" Charity ride in aid of the Epilepsy Society and the Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington. Following the success of the last two years that have raised over £21000 Jens has agreed with ride organizer Stuart Grace (GA Cycles) to return to the picturesque New Forest to do the event again.

Although not racing in 2015 Jens has been kept busy with Trek Travel and his position with Trek as Team Consultant so don't expect to drop him on the climbs!

Still arguably the most popular former Super Domestique he showed in 2014 no signs of slowing down with a full calendar of races and was close to winning stage 5 of the US Pro Challenge. And to cap it off broke the World Hour Record in Switzerland with 51.115km, although this has been broken his distance was a mark few have found easy to beat!

Ride organizer and local fundraiser Stuart is the father of Amy, who has suffered with Epilepsy, ADHD and learning disabilities for over 17 years, and has a relative receiving care at the hospice.Throughout their long-standing friendship with Jens, Stuart and Amy have received incredibly generous support. After last years event Jens said "After a great start to our charity event in 2013 we want this to happen again, and with Amy raise money for the two charity organisations in 2015."

Ride organizer Stuart said "We could have 300 to 400 riders but felt we wanted to keep the event small and friendly giving people the opportunity to ride with Jens and have a cup of tea and a chat afterwards something we felt other events didn't give."

So sign up for the event and enjoy a day in the New Forest with Jens. FULL DETAILS HERE

New Forest CC Club 10, 07/04/15

New Forest CC held the first in the popular 10 series on Tuesday night on the pan flat P311 course from Ringwood to Sopley and back. A gentle southerly wind just checked the 33 riders times heading out on the first half of the course, but most riders declared that they felt very little tail wind on the way back home. Ben Boardman continued his early season good form to win the maximum 15 points in the division 1 class in a time of 22:59, second was Sasha Ring in 23:39 and existing club champion Stuart Peckham completed the top three in 24:20. The division 2 points were awarded to Phil Underwood in 26:38, holding off Alex Setchell in 26:44 and Mick Anglim in 27:02, who just held onto third by 4 seconds from Richard Rajski and Phil Jones. Division 3’s top three were Bob Joliffe (29:37), Peter Hawker (30:49) and Chris Mills (31:10).

Dominant duo take the field in under an hour
Once again Steve Whitewick and Julian Jenkinson were a class apart from the rest of the field on Easter Sunday in the New Forest CC strongman 25 mile TT n the sporting P335 course, which takes in Brockenhurst, Rhinefield, Holmsley and Burley. Spring was definitely in the air as the riders were treated to fairly benign conditions, and temperatures started to climb during the event, causing some riders to overheat. There was a small field of 15 riders for the event, and such was Whitewick and Jenkinson’s performance they were the first riders that passed the finishing line, even though they were the last to start. The pair seared their way round the 25 mile course in an astonishing time of 58:03 at an average of nearly 26 miles an hour. 2014 club champion Stuart Peckham was the first NFCC rider home in 1:03:16 followed by Stephen Skinner (1:06:52). Samantha Alpin came in third in a fabulous time of 1:10:16. Peter Hawker, Mike Jefferies and Clare Gronow made up the top NFCC riders. Thanks to Andrew Hanley & Phil Underwood

CC Weymouth Easter 10: Topham Unbeatable!, Report,Results

Adam Topham (High Wycombe CC) duly won the CC Weymouth Easter Sunday 10, knocking out a 20:13 on the P451 Winfrith-Owermoigne course in Dorset. A few seconds slower than last year and no £200 prize for a sub 20 mintue ride, something to do with temperature and high pressure? Tophams analytical approach to performance divides opinion, power data, heart rate levels & controlled intervals leave little time for fanciful daydreaming along quiet country lanes. “It’s all turbo, I do twelve hours training a week, if I did that on the road it would be worth about eight hours, I only cycle to race! The one single reason I ride a bike is to race, I only do it for the competition.” Career and family dictate to a certain extent but you suspect Topham would do the same even if he had all day. Third place Rob Pears agrees: “I do all my quality on the turbo, everything is controllable, I like the download! I like the pretty graph, it motivates me, if I fail and look at the graph afterwards I think I could have just dug in harder, I can push myself beyond belief! says the 52 year old. Purists may scoff, what is beyond question however is the efficacy of the approach, Topham will race just 15 times this season, will win all that matters including the British Best all-Rounder title and be done by early September. Sandwiched between Topham & Pears was Good Friday winner Matt Burden with 20.37, Graham Moir (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) also scraped inside 21 minutes on a still morning that offered little.

Bournemouth Arrow 10:Burden Best on Good Friday

Matt Burden (Severn RC) won the Bournemouth Arrow 10 on the P311 Ringwood-Sopley course across the Hampshire-Dorset border. Burden clocked 21.55, the only sub-22 minute ride, on a wet and murky Good Friday morning. The smart money was on in-form Gregg Parker (VC ST Raphael/Waites Contracts), Parker averaged over 30mph to the turn at the Woolpack Inn but a front wheel puncture soon after took him out of contention allowing Burden to pocket the £50 first prize. “I was on for a short 21” be-moaned Parker back at the HQ.
Paul Jones (Primera-Sports.com) grabbed second place his 22:07 just one second ahead of teammate James Horton. Jones was knocked off his bike last autumn and has spent all winter on the turbo, clearly working hard. Triathlete Ben Keightley backed up Jones & Horton to give the Primera boys the team award.
Despite the wet conditions organiser Peter Fairbank was very happy, a super field of 98 was more than double that of last year.
