Richardson Takes Debut Win at Moreton!

Paul Richardson (Bournemouth Arrow/Hotel Collingwood) won the penultimate round in the Moreton evening series, his first win in his first ever road race. Richardson benefited from some generous handicapping; the 7 minutes given to the yellow group never looked under threat from a lack-lustre scratch group. Jordan Wade (VC ST Raphael) came down after a touch of wheels, taking some speed out of a chase that would prove fruitless. A regular on the nearby Bournemouth Track, Richardson showed a good turn of speed, opening up his sprint at 100 metres he comfortably held off the challenge of Shaun Amor (UK-BIKING). “My legs fell off” joked Amor. Jay Eastwood (Primera/Specialized) led the scratch group in, taking the sprint for 8th place still a minute down. With just one round remaining Eastwood has secured the overall series win for the third consecutive year.

Moreton Race Series takes break for the Olympics

A reminder that there is no Moreton Road Race this evening (02/08/12). With Olympic cycling on the television the race series is taking a one week break. Racing will resume on August 9th with the final round one week later on the 16th.

Moreton Race Series,Tim Lee Takes his Chance!

Tim Lee took his chance to win the latest round of the Moreton Race Series, after the Scratch group failed to bring the race together. Unattached Lee won a bunch sprint, with the “red group” over a minute behind. For once the scratch group could make no impression on the combined slower groups, who were working well to stay away. The pace was certainly high with several riders being shelled out. The absence of series leader Jay Eastwood made it hard and the dropped riders now working in the bunch made it even harder. At the bell the gap was 1.10, and the chase was effectively over. In the dash for the line Lee was not the first one to cross it but the first one that mattered. John Weber, fresh from riding "Le Marmotte” just missed out in second, with Simon Merritt third

Moreton Series:Groundhog Day as Eastwood Wins Again!

It was like Groundhog Day down in Dorset as Jay Eastwood (Primera/Specialized) galloped to yet another victory in the Moreton series. Eastwood appears unbeatable in the finale, nearly always a bike length clear at the line. Few would bet against him winning the overall series for a third straight year. For the first time this year the sun shone on a Thursday evening, a stiff breeze blew but was already dying as the race got underway. The three groups ahead of the scratch were altogether by half distance and seemingly working well. As is often the case in handicaps though, too many seem to be waiting for the catch. If those further down the line showed the industry of the “same old faces” on the front then maybe they would surprise themselves. The combined “slower” groups held a gap of around a minute for 3 laps but once the chasers had caught a glimpse the game was up. Into the last lap, Eastwood & Luke Gray (Baboco CT) were first to make the junction, muscling their way to the front, followed by the rest of the contenders. All eyes were on the Primera rider but Gray was the one who opened up the sprint. Eastwood had it covered however and was quickly on the wheel and even quicker to come round on Grays left. It looked easy, it probably wasn’t, he has raced a lot this season and is a specialist at this type of racing. Next week’s race will be the Midsummer Championship event and will be 30 minutes longer. The extra distance may allow someone to attack Eastwood, breakaways are rare at Moreton but why wait for the sprint when we all know what will happen!

Moreton Race Series, Eastwood Wins in the Rain

Overcoming the wet conditions and a “dodgy stomach”, Jason Eastwood (Primera/Specialized) claimed another victory at Moreton in Dorset. Eastwood had felt unwell before the start but when he opened up his sprint, some 200 metres out, only Steve Dring (Echelon-Rotor) could go with him. Dring could hold the wheel but was never going to come round the observant Eastwood.


The pair held a small gap over Roland Tilley (Ridebike.co.uk), Tilley has struggled with illness & crashes this season, 3rd place was a result. Rain fell on the 34 starters throughout the hour long race, a handful of punctures allowing a few an early bath. At the bell the bunch was together and the rain had eased a little but there would be no late escapes.
