McLaughlin a Clear Winner on Portland!

Simon McLaughlin (BJW) started the defence of his individual hill climb title with a clear win on Portland Hill. McLaughlin won all four rounds last year and after this commanding display few would bet against him repeating the feat this year. Round two, features the tortuous Creech Hill with the first rider off at 10:00

46 brave souls from across the county turned up on a somewhat 'breezy' (that could be quite an understatement) Sunday morning to tackle the climb from sea level up to the Portland Heights. Whilst the conditions where very different from the scorching sun we had last year the results was exactly the same. Last season's winner, Simon McLaughlin (BJW), destroyed the field once again finishing 26 seconds clear of his nearest rival. That rival was CC Weymouth's own Ben Davis entering his first hill climb and taking home the club trophy in the process. Ben's main discipline is Duathalon and he is not often seen during the regular TT season but he is clearly not to be taken lightly! Andy Buddle of Poole Wheelers showed he is quick on the climbs as well as the flat with an excellent ride to round out the top 3.

Weymouth's Heidi Gould was fastest lady. The reigning lady's champion showed a clean pair of heels to many of the respected male riders but new member Amanda Bayley seem to have provided Heidi with her first real competition for a while and this one could be a much closer contest than the men's.

Once again thanks to a strong turnout CC Weymouth take a commanding lead in to the next round of the 4 race series. However the reigning champions had better look out as Poole Wheelers seem up for it this year and hosting 2 home rounds could play in to their hands. Weymouth will need to head 'en mass' to next weeks event at Creech to keep ahead in the race.
