Bournemouth Jubilee 25,Whitewicks Knockout Blow!

Stephen Whitewick (Velorefined-Aerosmith) won the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 25 on a gorgeous morning on the P415 Upton course. It was a battle of the big hitters on the south coast and the balance of power still lies in the East of the district. Southampton –based Whitewick clocked 51:43 to beat Gary Dighton (Poole Wheelers) by a scant 10 seconds. Fighting out of the West corner, Dighton is punching hard. Week by week, fitter & leaner, second by second regaining the form of the glory days in the early 90s. The former Olympian pushed Whitewick very hard, who, in his own words felt “cooked”. Gregg Parker (CC Weymouth) could only feature on the undercard, despite a respectable 53:55. Ben Davis (CC Weymouth) had been expected to shine but a rear wheel puncture at 15 miles put an end to his race. Tandem pairing Simon Hall (Andover Wh) & Mary Corbett (Sotonia CC) warmed up for the national 24 hour championships next weekend with 1:02:40. Back at the HQ temperatures were soaring, the fast ones and smart ones were headed for the beach. Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers next open time trial is the 50 mile event on the 4th August. The Wheelers have been invited to promote the National 50 mile Championships in 2014 and will "road test" the possible championship course.
