New Forest Club 30 17/07/12

Bob Jolliffe writes....NEW Forest Cycling Club aces Gary Lock and Ben Boardman both produced 25mph-plus rides to take first and second places in their club’s 30-mile time trial south of Ringwood.Starting at number six, Boardman was soon heading the field as he hammered around two-and-a-bit laps of the testing Kingston-Winkton-Bransgore circuit on a blustery Tuesday evening to set the standard to beat at 1-11-53.But it was smooth-pedalling Lock who proved the more powerful from the No 11 spot. He finished exactly three-and-a-half minutes behind Boardman to clock a fine 1-10-23 which gave him the win by 90 seconds.A fine piece of calculating by club president Roger Bacon had the pair tying for the first handicap award.Bournemouth Jubilee Wheeler visitor Steve Groome was third overall with 1-13-55 and Bournemouth Arrow’s Peter Wilson took fourth overall with 1-14-59.Third in the club competition and fifth overall went to Steve Roberts with 1-16-51 while sixth went to second claim NF member Stuart Grace (GA Cycles) with 1-17-45 riding a 97 inch geared fixed wheel.Improving Forest rider James Bannister clocked 1-19-11 for seventh ahead of clubmate Andrew Hanley with 1-19-38.Others (all NFCC) unless stated: Tom Butler 1-20-21, Rob Brinsdon 1-22-11, Richard Mason 1-23-36, Keith Bradfield 1-23-56, Hugh Roper 1-24-26, Joe Phillips 1-24-52, Julian Sheppard (Sotonia CC) 1-26-39, Richard Wills 1-32-46, Geoff Weller 1-33-04
