POWERHOUSE Gary Lock just failed in his attempt to beat Julian Jenkinson’s course record for New Forest Cycling Club’s seven-mile Norleywood-East Boldre circuit by 14 seconds on Tuesday, writes Bob Jolliffe.Lock had checked out the 14min 58sec course record prior to racing. But despite his best efforts to keep his speed over 28mph all the way around, ended up with a time of 15-11. Despite missing out on the record, it was still an impressive ride from the IT expert who looks to have an excellent future in time trialling. In fact his nearest challenger was James Bannister, who is also having a good season, with 16-53.Third place went to juvenile Hugo Walters with an excellent ride of 17-00.Rob Brinsdon collected fourth place with 17-20 followed by Geri Robinson (17-26), Andrew Hanley (17-30), Gary Plumb (17-43), Joe Phillips (17-44), Dan Mitchell (17-51) and Phil Underwood (17-59).Aleksandra Burlinson and Donna Shaw tied for 22nd place with 20-46 and pipped 60th birthday boy Bob Jolliffe by a single second.Others (NFCC unless stated): Richard Mason 18-02, Richard Rajski 18-14, Nick Williams 18-32, Julian Sheppard (Sotonia CC) 18-36, Dave Wilson and Stuart Grace (GA Cycles) tied with 18-39, Konnor Bracher-Walsh 18-42, Richard Wills 19-03, Patrick Walters 19-06, Chris Mills 19-47, Pete Hawker 20-12, Roger Bacon 21-26.The same evening in East Anglia, Chris Jolliffe clocked 26-19 in the Godric CC club 10.
