Finishing the Greatham Series on the usual date the week before, ...a3crg threw in a "bonus event" on the very much underused P883 at Buriton. What a "Bonus Night" it turned out to be for a lot of the riders, ten riders sub-twenty, course record broken and the women's course record almost broken (but that wasn't a problem).
The course hasn't been used for two years plus it was only ever on a cold Good Friday, so no summer events had been held for a number of years. However though, there was a slight struggle to convince some people to ride it, but come the night there were enough riders who knew that it was an excellent course. Because of the failing light at this time of year the maximum limit was seventy riders and sixty nine riders signed on to bring the "2016 Summer Series" to a fitting finale.
Pat Wright of Paceline wished he had pressed just bit harder coming to the line recording the winning time of 19:00 while second placed Kevin Tye just ten seconds back felt that had he ridden the course more often it would have been an "18". Meanwhile in the women's result Julie Shaw just missed her course record by just six seconds, and while analysing result Julia realised that was the last time she had ridden the course in May 2008. However Julia did have the consolation of winning on standard from Kevin Tye by almost half a minute (27 secs).
Second placed woman and likely to be the South's 2016 BAR Champion, Laura Bartlett stopped the watch 21:36 with Simone Dailey in 3rd place with 21:52 and in fourth place age group medal winner in last week's National 25 Sarah Matthews 21:56, four women sub-22.
In the Team Competition, Fareham Wheelers took the prize with a stunning time of 01:00:05 beat the VeloRefinded (old) boys by just three seconds while the promoting club were modest with their third place.
There were many who recorded PB's, but the record must go to Tim Grose who did 22:56 and said that beat his time set in 2001!!! But lastly spare a thought for Mike Stafford, the Portsmouth North End rider was shaking his head at the event saying that he did a "19" in a local club ten, but only came tied ninth!!!
