Dorset Miles, Cold Comfort.

Finally a winter’s day made for bike riding, blue skies, crisp air, cold feet, it was good to be out. A motorcyclist wearing an Instructors Hi-Viz vest, berated us for riding two abreast? Whatever! Out to Wimborne Minster via Hampreston, the tolling bells fading as we turned onto the Cowgrove and Langton Long. A buzzard, high on a telegraph pole ignores us, a few years back it would have been a “good bird” now they are everyday sightings. Through a still sleeping, Blandford Forum and over to Winterborne Stickland to climb Bulbarrow from Hedge End. The welcome, low sunlight made us squint as we climbed, “I am riding to heart rate” the excuse for being dropped. Fast down to Ansty Cross and on to Milborne St Andrew, round the back of the village and over to Bere Regis, we did not turn right to Shitterton! Lane End, Bloxworth, West & East Morden, Lytchett Matravers, Corfe Mullen, Ashington & Merley, we could do it with our eyes closed, well perhaps not. Left at Northbourne to avoid the chaos of Castle Lane, we retrace back around the airport to find the chaos that the closed A338 is causing. One turns left to do a 20 minute sweetspot effort, (fair play), the other heads home passing grim faces wasting their Sunday sitting in traffic.
